What would you do if your school burnt down, and you were the only one to blame?
One of the Survivors By: Susan Shaw
The fire was only the beginning
It turned his life upside down
Joey an innocent boy goes to school everyday
Maureen Joey’s neighbor Innocent girl
One day he was over his grandma’s house and something went terribly wrong
The oven caught on fire
They all evacuated the house, but their cat was still in there, Preston
His mom runs in the get Preston, but doesn’t come out
His life turned upside down and his whole personality changes
Later that month he was in school, and they just got new fire alarms
In his history class, he heard “This is fire drill”
He has a bad feeling in his gut, he has to get out of there
He gets up in the middle of class and leaves, he takes Maureen with him
Once he gets out, the fire engine comes and they go into the building
When the fire fighters get out, there are no survivors except for Joey and Maureen
All the parents and family members are blaming the fire of Joey and Maureen because they are the only survivors
When he gets home and settles, he can’t get the fire off his mind
He draws it all out
He draws all of his classmates
Weeks after the fire, people whose children have died, they come and harass Joey and Maureen
They threw dangerous items and put Joey and Maureen in danger
Then, his friends funeral is in a few days
Joey and Maureen don’t know if they are ready to go and face all the parents or town members
The day has come, Joey and Maureen are ready to go to the funeral
When Joey gets up to the stadium to talk, he explains everything that happens
Everything makes sense now, now everybody understands what has happened that day in history class
The audience gets up and starts to clap for him
After the funeral the family members and parents are changed
Then, they stop harassing Joey and Maureen
Later that week Joey and Maureen go back to school
The students finally accept him
Even now the town members stop bothering them and accept them into their neighborhoods
The town members have all learned a very important lesson
Never judge a person, if you don’t know their story
