UNIT ONE GOD, OUR CREATOR AND FATHER

Saint Jerome Before Jerome translated the Bible, there were many versions written from the Hebrew and Greek texts. Some considered these translations to be corrupt and incorrect. Jerome researched and revised the books of the Bible over many years. In the 16th century, the Council of Trent decided that Jerome's work was the authoritative Latin text of the Catholic Church. It is still the official translation used today.

SESSION 1 THE BIBLE, GOD’S STORY

Reading the Bible with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in light of Catholic Tradition can help reveal God's plan for our lives. The Bible contains instruction about how we are to live as a human family. The pope and the bishops—the Magisterium—act together to help us interpret the Bible. The Church encourages us to read the Bible to learn about God, to grow in our relationship with God and with others, and to hear God's message of love and forgiveness. What is the Bible?

Tells us: Who God is Who we are How we should live How we can go to heaven What is the Bible?
