Close Reading

Reread the last two paragraphs silently to yourself. You may transfer any annotations you may have from yesterday’s reading. Round 1

Turn to your partners and discuss the questions that you have. Make sure each person gets a turn to ask their questions. Feel free to add annotations or questions to your own paper. Round 2

Reread the last paragraphs again, one section at a time! Trade off reading each section so that everyone has a chance to read. Stop after each section and discuss… -the personification of nature -make a list of what nature does in order -discuss: how does nature affect Okeke? I suggest you write down the most important points of your discussion. Round 3

Reread the close read AGAIN!!!! Switching readers each turn. Stop after each section and discuss… -diction -circle what you believe to be the most important words -look up definitions and synonyms as needed (I suggest you do this for words that you know as well because a deeper understanding of the words will help you in the long run. Round 4

Reread the sections again one last time. Discuss: What happens after the story is over? Find specific evidence to back up your answer! Write down your response. Round 5

Take a seat in our Socratic Seminar circle Turn in your notebooks to our class bin. I will specifically be grading the notes you made for “Appostrophes in Contractions” from our website. Please get out the S. Seminar rubric you used the previous Socratic Seminar. Reread your reflection on the back in the next three minutes silently. Thursday, 27 August 2015
