PRINCE OF PEACE SAFETY PROGRAM

POP SAFETY PROGRAM FATHER FALLON RECOGNIZED THE NEED FOR A WEATHER AND SAFETY PROGRAM. FATHER FORMED THE SAFETY COMMITTEE TO EXPLORE THE AREAS PERTINENT TO PERSONAL SAFETY FOR PERSONS ATTENDING THE POP CAMPUS. THE SAFETY COMMITTEE UTILIZED PARISHIONERS WITH BUSINESS, MEDICAL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT BACKGROUNDS TO FASHION THE SAFETY PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM BEING PRESENTED IS THE COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF THIS GROUP AND THE SELECTED BEST PRACTICES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE SECURITY INDUSTRY. INCORPORATED THE USE OF HOOVER POLICE AS NEEDED

POP SAFETY PROGRAM THE NATIONAL SHIELD FEDERAL STUDY RECOMMENDS A “PLAN” AS A TOP PREPAREDNESS EFFORT FOR OFFICIALS ORGANIZING A SAFETY PROGRAM. THE COLOR CODE SYSTEM BEING UTILIZED IS DERIVED FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE SECURITY INDUSTRY.

POP SAFETY PROGRAM THE THREE PART PLAN A COLOR CODE SYSTEM WILL BE UTILIZED TO CAPTURE MAJOR DESIGNATED WEATHER AND SAFETY EVENTS. DESIGNATED LEADERS AND VOLUNTEERS TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN TRAINING AND ACTUAL EVENT(S). TWO-WAY RADIOS WILL BE USED FOR COMMUNICATIONS AS WELL AS PA SYSTEMS WHEN APPROPRIATE. (8:30AM & 11:00AM MASS ONLY)

POP SAFETY PROGRAM COLOR CODES GREEN- INDICATES A SEVERE WEATHER EVENT. WHITE- A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. BLUE- A FIRE ALARM ORANGE- A BUILDING EVACUATION. COLOR CODES YELLOW- A POTENTIAL VIOLENT THREAT THAT CAN BE SEEN OR HEARD OR THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED. RED- AN ACTUAL VIOLENT THREAT THAT CAN BEEN SEEN OR HEARD OR THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED.

POP SAFETY PROGRAM LEADERS EACH MASS GENERALLY HAS A LEAD USHER AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS. LEAD USHER, EUCHARISTIC MINISTER OR VOLUNTEER LEADER WILL RECEIVE INITIAL TRAINING BY SAFETY COMMITTEE OR DESIGNEE. TRAINING FOR REMAINING USHERS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS OR VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PRESENTED BY PREVIOUSLY TRAINED LEADERS OR SAFETY COMMITTEE. SUNDAY MORNING SERVICES WILL BE COORDINATED BY LEAD USHER, EUCHARISTIC MINISTER, OR VOLUNTEER LEADER, PRIEST FOR THE MASS WITH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION DIRECTOR, DIRECTOR OR NURSERY AND ON-SITE HOOVER POLICE OFFICERS. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY EVENING MASS WILL BE COORDINATED BY LEAD USHER, EUCHARISTIC MINISTER, OR VOLUNTEER LEADER, PRIEST FOR THE MASS AND ON – SITE SECURITY GUARD, IF PRESENT.

POP SAFETY PROGRAM COMMUNICATIONS TWO-WAY RADIOS WILL BE THE PRIMARY METHOD OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE LEADERS. CELL PHONES ARE RECOMMENDED AS A SECONDARY METHOD OF COMMUNICATION. THE SCHOOL PA SYSTEM MAY BE UTILIZED WHEN APPROPRIATE. THE CHURCH SANCTUARY PA SYSTEM CAN BE UTILIZED WHEN APPROPRIATE, TO ANNOUNCE WHAT IS HAPPENING. (8:30AM & 11:00AM MASS ONLY)

CODE GREEN TORNADO OR SEVERE WEATHER DESIGNATED LEADERS WILL RECEIVE WEATHER ALERTS VIA CHURCH CAST. (TEXT, , VOICE MESSAGE) IF AN ALERT IS RECEIVED SHORTLY BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER A MASS OR OTHER CHURCH FUNCTION, A CODE GREEN WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY ANY LEADER OVER THE RADIO. SAFETY LEADERS WILL GATHER USHERS AND ANY SAFETY TRAINED MEMBERS TO ASSIGN WEATHER RESPONSIBILITIES. THE LEADER WILL NOTIFY THE PRESIDING PRIEST OR OTHER EVENT OFFICIAL OF THE IMPENDING WEATHER EVENT. THE PA SYSTEM IN THE SANCTUARY AND SCHOOL CAN BE USED TO ANNOUNCE THE CODE GREEN. PERSONS WITH CHILDREN IN THE BUILDING SHOULD BE ADVISED TO SEEK SHELTER AS THEIR CHILD WILL BE IN A PREDETERMINED SAFETY ZONE. LEADERS WILL DIRECT PERSONS TO WEATHER SAFETY ZONES. (USE GATHERING ROOM SPACE WASHROOMS FOR ELDERLY AND PHYSICALLY LIMITED PARISHIONERS) LEADERS WILL ANNOUNCE AN “ALL CLEAR” WHEN NOTIFIED BY CHURCH CAST. 8:30AM AND 11:00AM MASS WILL USE ALL SAFETY ZONES INCLUDING THE SCHOOL. ANY OTHER MASS CAN NORMALLY BE COVERED WITH CHURCH BUILDING, INCLUDING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICES AND NURSERY HALLWAY IF NEEDED.

CODE WHITE OBSERVE PERSON IN DISTRESS CALL 911(Error on side of caution) RETRIEVE AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) IF APPLICABLE ASK FOR ANY MEDICALLY TRAINED PERSONNEL TO ASSIST. LEADER SHOULD ASK PERSON(S) TO GO TO FRONT OF BUILDING TO DIRECT MEDICS TO SCENE CLEAR PATH FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL IF EMERGENCY HAS ANY CLEAN-UP, SUPPLIES ARE IN THE SACRISTY IN FRONT CABINETS MEDICAL EMERGENCY

CODE BLUE CALL 911 MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT EVACUATE ALL BUILDINGS LEADER AND CHURCH OFFICIALS TO DIRECT PERSONS TO NEAREST EXIT PERSONS WITH CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL OR NURSERY SHOULD GO TO PARKING LOT TO MEET CHILD’S CLASS FIRE ALARM

CODE ORANGE BUILDING EVACUATION CALL 911 MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT EVACUATE ALL BUILDINGS LEADER AND CHURCH OFFICIALS TO DIRECT PERSONS TO NEAREST EXIT PERSONS WITH CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL OR NURSERY SHOULD GO TO PARKING LOT TO MEET CHILD’S CLASS

CODE YELLOW Potential violent threat Be Vigilant Code Yellow is a critical situation where a potential violent threat is seen or heard or reported. Any Leader or church official may issue a Code Yellow. Declare a Code Yellow over the radio! Call 911 Time is of the essence and direct action is demanded. For the 8:30AM & 11:00AM Mass 2-way radios are critical for Religious ED and Nursery communication. Church and campus will go into Lock-Down Mode and Shelter-in Place. Religious classes, nursery and office area will follow procedures and will Lock-Down and Shelter-in-Place. Leader will instruct parishioners to stay in pews and remain quiet. No one is allowed in the hallways or common areas. Only a police officer or church official can declare an “All Clear”

CODE RED Lock-down/Actual Threat Code Red is a critical situation where an actual violent threat is seen or heard or reported. Any Leader or church official may issue a Code Red. THE SAFETY COMMITTEE WAS FORMED TO EVALUATE AND RECOMMEND A SAFETY PROGRAM FOR POP. A COLOR CODE SYSTEM WAS ADOPTED TO COMPLEMENT THE CURRENT SCHOOL MODEL. TRAINED LEADERS WILL COORDINATE WEATHER AND SAFETY EVENTS. PRIMARY COMMUNICATION BETWEEN LEADERS WILL BE TWO-WAY RADIOS AND CELL PHONES AS BACK-UP. QUESTIONS/COMMENTS/RADIO INSTRUCTIONS/WALK-THRU
