Iraqi and Syrian Refugee Crisis Janae Hunter

What’s the Story? Millions of people have fled Syria and Iraq. Syrians are fleeing because of a war raging on in their country since 2011, while thousands of Iraqis have fled after the Islamic State (ISIS) seized several key towns, resulting in airstrikes by the U.S. While refugees tend to go to neighboring countries, lack of funds to support themselves and few education options for their children, they are moving to the European Union According to the UNHCR, there are currently over 400,000 Syrians and Iraqis living in the 28 countries consisting of the EU.

What’s My Plan? Line Graph: How many people have left Iraq and Syria since 2011? Any surprising trends or surprising numbers? Bar Graph: What are the demographics of the refugees? How many males and females have left? How old do they tend to be? Interactive Map: Where in the EU are they going? Is there any place they tend to go to more?
