The Europe day

1.History of the Europe day The Europe day is celebrate on May 9 th, since This day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. It refers to the Schuman declaration” of 1950 (after World War II). Schuman was the French foreign minister and he wanted to create a new form of political cooperation in Europe because he didn’t want that Europe wages war anymore. So he wanted to create a “European Institution”

And one year after his speech, they signed a treaty: « The European coal and steel Community ». This speech is very important for us today because it’s considered as the beginning of what is now « the European Institution ».

2.Celebrations about Europe Day On this day: -The E.U institutions open their doors to the public in early May in Brussels and Strasbourg. -A thousand of people take part in visits, debates, concerts and other events. -Local E.U offices in Europe organise a large range of activities and events for all ages.

3.In our region The instutitions that organise this day are: -The European Union. -The Languedoc-Roussillon -Europe Direct -Prefet of the region.

On this day in Languedoc-Roussillon, there are a lot of activities and events such as: - exhibitions -stands of information, meeting places, educational animations, with themes about Europe. -Concerts and shows with European artists. -Open days for the visits of project… Blandine
