Creating a LDOF Image in Photoshop

Objective The student will be able to use Photoshop tools to emphasize the focal point of an image by blurring the background of a photograph while leaving the main subject in focus.

Open File Open one of your Great Depth of Field images in Photoshop which has the subject in the foreground. File > Open Save your original file as: lastname_firstname_before.jpg (File > Save As)

Select the quick selection tool and... paint over the main subject of your image.

Go to Select > Inverse to select the background.

Go to Filter > Blur > Surface Blur

Adjust RADIUS and THRESHOLD only slightly, so that you can see a slight difference between the selection and your subject.

Save your modified image as lastname_firstname_after.jpg and turn both your before and after images into the class Dropbox.
