 Look at maps, talk to others. Select suitable routes.  Select campsites / huts and pay in advance  Obtain permission if necessary.  Organise equipment: individual and group.  Organise food: check groups have planned carefully  Arrange transport to and from tramp  Make sure someone knows your plans  Check weather forecast: long range and immediate  Inform DOC of your intended movements  Check everyone is healthy  Check gear

 Notify contacts that all is well and thank them  Clean and dry equipment  Discuss whether food, equipment & clothing were adequate and suitable  Was the route suitable?  Were your time estimates correct?  Were expectations met?
