Hyperbole HYPERBOLE Example :The woman said that she’ll live for ever. Exaggerating to show how strong the feeling or effects are.
Alliteration ALLITERATTION Example: crispy cookies crunch. A repeating first consonant sound like a nursery rhyme.
Metaphor METAPHOR Example: She is skinnier than a twig. Two things that are compared without using like or as.
Personification PERSONIFICATION Example: The moonlight danced on the water like an Indian dances his rain danced. Giving human traits to objects or ideas.
Onomatopoeia ONOMATOPOEIA Example: The owl hooted “hoo hoo” to the other owls. A sound word.
Idioms IDIOMS Example: Lilly jumped the gun this morning. Expressions that don’t mean what they say.
Understatement UNDERSTATEMENT Example: This wont take long. Expression with less strength than expected.
