INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY Ideas and concepts created or owned by a person or company (including books, music, movies, software, inventions, and trademarks.) page 126

COPYRIGHT A type of legal protection for works that are created or owned by a person or a company. Page 126

TRADEMARK A name, symbol, or other feature that identifies a product with a specific owner. Page 126

PERMISSION Consent or authorization by the owner or creator to use his or her work in a way that was not its original purpose

TERMS OF USE The rules regarding permission to use copyrighted material

FAIR USE The times when you use copyrighted material without permission or payment (page 128)

PUBLIC DOMAIN That material which people can freely use without asking permission (page 128)

PIRACY The act of copying or sharing copyrighted material without permission (page 129)

FILE SHARING To give, receive, or exchange music, videos, or other files with other computer or Web users. (page 129)

PLAGIARISM To take credit for someone else’s ideas (page 13)
