MRS., OLIVER’S 6 TH GRADE CLASS Genre Study: Historical Fiction

Purpose: Develop and apply skills and strategies to the reading process. Learning Goals: Students will utilize strategies to self-question and correct, infer, visualize, predict and check during reading. Students will apply post-reading skills to comprehend and interpret text after reading Students will use details from text to analyze literary elements, evaluate the effect of author’s style.

Research Background Material Research the background of your author. Present information about him/her on a PowerPoint slide. Choose one character, one of the settings, and a conflict that occurred in the historical novel that you just read. Put these on slides and discuss why these three items were important to the novel.

Photographs and Descriptions Find three photographs or drawings that depict any historical aspect of your novel. For each, give a brief description of the image and tell how it relates to your novel.

New Ideas Your final slide(s) should be a synopsis of what you learned about the affects of World War II in your book and what your feelings are about that new learning. Do you feel differently about any group of people after reading this book? Why? Has this changed you in any way? How? Do you feel differently about anything? What? Why How do you feel about the future after reading this book? Why do you feel that way?
