To give help. The boy appreciated the assist his friend gave while he was doing his sit ups.

Not guilty of a crime. You are not innocent if you are caught red handed taking something that does not belong to you.

A plan or plot for doing something. They met to come up with a scheme for how to sell the briefcases.
