And A SNEAK PREVIEW OF THE NEW MUSEUM

Coach Henry Sory and other local leaders had a vision several years ago to preserve the history of Sherman High and Fred Douglass High Schools.

And created a non profit entity which became known as the Sherman Ex Students Association. A governing board of directors was established… And meetings began… with Mr. Sory elected as our first president.

 The Sherman Ex-Students Association is open to graduates and former students of Sherman High School or Fred Douglass. The Association is organized to:  provide opportunities for further, high education for graduates of Sherman High School in the form of scholarships;  preserve the cultural and literary histories of both Sherman High and Fred Douglass Schools through a collection of artifacts;  recognize, unite, inform and involve all in the support of education and fellowship.

 A dream for space to collect and display artifacts became a reality when the Sherman ISD offered space in the basement of the Administrative Office Building…(the old SHS)  And a team of hard working volunteers came forth to begin a new and exciting journey.

 The museum moved when the SISD left the old high school building one last time in December  Today visitors can take a stroll down memory lane by visiting the new location of the Sherman Ex-Student's Association Museum.  The museum is located in the old Dillingham Jr High School Building located next to the new SISD Administration Offices on Loy Lake Road.

 This stroll will amaze you with the memories it brings back! The museum displays Athenians from just about every graduation class, all kinds of pictures, awards, plaques, Hi Talks, letter sweaters and jackets, and many, many more.  Just take a look at some of the following pictures. The museum is not quite ready to open, but this will give you an idea of what will be in store when you visit!

 You may donate your special memories and high school artifacts to the museum  Research material is available on all classes and former students  Volunteers are always welcome!

We are proud of our new home and are grateful to the Sherman Independent School District for making this unique opportunity a reality so that our educational history can be shared among generations of former and current students!
