What is Team-Teaching?

1. Establish Rapport 2. Identify teaching styles and strategies. 3. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses.

This is where it all begins!!! This stage of Team-teaching is the most important. It demands the most mental energy, as the crafting of a good lesson happens here therefore requiring the usage of your mental and physical energy. SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A GOOD PLAN? Lets talk about it.

The real action begins!!!  Is this a good plan?  Why are the students not responding?  Why are they responding to the JTE and not me?  Do we have enough material to fill the time slot?  Are we meeting our objectives?  DO THEY UNDERSTAND?

DID WE DO IT? This is the postmortem stage. It is very important to communicate in at this stage with your JTE Why? Because this is where you both determine how you can better the next lesson. Both JTE and ALT must respect each others opinion.

3RsC  Respect  Responsibly  Reliability  Compromise

Respect is a two way stream; you receive it… if you show it.

1. Play your part and avoid the blame game. 2. Do what is required and take initiative to do what is not done. 3. Check, double check and check again to avoid ambiguity. 4. Lead by example.

99.9% of your worth is not enough. Leave no space for error. The feeling of being reliable is a great one. NB: SELFLESSNESS IS KEY TO PERFORMNING AT OPTIMUM IN A TEAM.

1. Learn to agree to disagree 2. Remember the goals set and priorities entailed in the team teaching process. 3. Your partners suggestions and inputs are just as important.

1. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. 2. Challenge yourself in the process, asking questions as you go along. 3. Find a common thread between you and your JTE and act on that thread.

1. Wanting to give up as soon as One of your classes seem not to have grasped the concept. 2. Brain freeze ( Ideas not flowing as they are used to) 3. Disagreement.

1. TALK about your differences. 2. Make sure to clarify any changes and requests. 3. Exercise all the tenets of a team: Respect, Responsibility, Reliability and compromise.
