Alliteration Is the repeating of the same sound in a group of words. Ex. " I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet."
ballad A poetic sad story about love. Ex. Twilight
Characterization Is when a writer describes the character. Ex. The girl is really loving with the little boy.
Connotation and Denotation The connotation is how it makes you feel. The denotation is the definition of a word. Ex. Anger is to be unwilling or dislike
Dialogue Is a conversation between two or more characters that are arguing. Ex.
Fable Is a story that teaches a lesson. Ex. The rabbit and the turtle
Figurative language Is when you say something but you mean something else Ex. My business is looking up. It’s flat on it’s back
Flashback It goes to parts that happen in the past. Ex. Wait a minute- weren’t you on my theological blacklist when I was in charge.
Hyperbole Is when a person exaggerates in a story or a play. Ex. The company is growing at the rate of 200% every year. This is sheer Hyperbole. I’m sure we are growing at not more than 20%
Imagery The formation of mental images. Ex. The art of painting images, using words, not paintbrushes.
Inferences
Irony When you expect something and something else occurs. Ex. But… this is amazing! I too love standing around on unused railway tracks in the middle of the dessert! I…I think I love you!
Metaphor Is the comparison of two or more things using “like” or “as” Ex. “bite the bullet”
