 What does eating healthy mean to you?  What food groups do we need? ◦ Grains ◦ Vegetables ◦ Fruits ◦ Proteins ◦ Dairy  Why do we need them?

 Has anyone ever heard of MyPlate?  What do you notice about it?  How is it different than the Food Pyramid?

 What are they? ◦ Grains ◦ Vegetables ◦ Fruits ◦ Protein ◦ Dairy  Why do we need to know them?

 What are some grains? ◦ Bread, Pasta, Rice, Oatmeal, Crackers  What nutrients can we find in grains? ◦ Carbohydrates (main source of energy) ◦ Come proteins, vitamins & minerals

 What are they? ◦ Contain more nutrients than refined grains ◦ Refined grains:  White bread  White rice  Regular pasta  Whole grains: ◦ 100% whole wheat bread ◦ Brown rice ◦ Oatmeal ◦ Whole-grain cereals ◦ Popcorn

 We want to replace refined grains with whole grains. Why?  Goal: Half your grains are ‘whole’ ◦ How can you do this? ◦ Edit your ‘favorite’ meal so it contains whole grains

 How much should we eat? Goal: half of our meals should come from these two categories Does anyone do this? How could you do this?
