Designing of Missionary excellence includes: Mission, vision, and core values

Introduction An exalted mission attracts talented and dedicated professionals. Motivates employees to perform heroic deeds and make sacrifices and attract financial and other support of the government and society. It is best to seek missionary excellence through achievable, specific, local, few missions.

Changing an organization to missionary excellence Local mission A vision of excellence closely tied to regeneration and improved quality of life Participation by clientele in diagnostic and developmental activities Use to expertise as well as wisdom and insight Training and empowerment as a tools of change Use of local culture and local opportunities in pursuing the missions.

Conti… Credibility building by initially taking up quick results yielding highly visible activities Effective co ordination of both social and economic activities Mobilization of external support Progressive decentralization

Management Structures and systems Welfare for others and participation are the core elements for pursuing missionary excellence Missionary organization are often weak when it comes to management systems, hence it increase their effectiveness professionalism and expertise are injected into their decision making process The most appropriate style is “Altruism- participative-professional”

Policy framework Giving priority to social or national issues over financial issues in assessing new ventures Export oriented or import substitution in case of commercial organizations Networking with other organizations and stakeholders Integrity and honesty in business dealings Developing good relations with staff and union members

Management structure and systems Including the other organization in decision making structure Emphasis on job satisfaction, self, peer group and ideological means of control are indispensable to generate staff commitment Diversity of task may require much operating decentralization but as the resource is limited it may lead to centralization of functions such as purchasing, technology management etc

Renewal Mechanism Two sets of renewal mechanism 1. Renew the missionary organization 2. Renew organizations and systems of the targeted beneficiaries or clientele

Mechanisms that renew the missionary organization Social learning Learning from the organizations mistakes Planning activities with the participation of beneficiaries Linking knowledge to action Bottoms up decision making Community and beneficiary participation in operations

Mechanisms that renew organizations and systems of targeted beneficiaries Transformational leadership applied to these organizations and systems Credibility building, mobilization of beneficiary system Institution building, quick pay off activities and project Mobilization of various stake holders in the beneficiaries domain

Set up of missionary organizations Government organization Private parties like enterprises, cooperatives, institution, or voluntary organization This is usually set up by organizations who have a social conscience and work for the good of society. Its about building a good business
