Presentation transcript:

March 28, 2010 Church for My Neighbor... Mercy Hill’s Launch Team brainstorms about it’s next preview service.

What will your neighbor see? When the people at our March 28 launch team meeting were asked: “What will your neighbor see when he comes to Mercy Hill’s next preview service?” and “What do you want him to see?” the following areas were addressed...

Six Areas... ✤P✤People ✤W✤Worship ✤P✤Preaching ✤C✤Children ✤L✤Literature & Information ✤O✤Orientation & Help

People ✤ Warm and friendly people ✤ People being friendly to one another ✤ Someone to converse with ✤ Welcoming faces ✤ A warm and welcome-greeting community ✤ A political “safe zone” (without partisan arguing) ✤ An invitation to lunch after the service

Worship ✤ worshipful music in an upbeat, dynamic atmosphere--not too somber. ✤ excellence & quality ✤ contextual and “missional” ✤ liturgical simplicity ✤ more prayer: show the curious what prayer is.

Preaching ✤ Christ-centered message ✤ a message that explains, in a meaningful way, things about God. ✤ Apologetical preaching (preaching that addresses and/or answers doubts or concerns people have about Christianity)

Children ✤ safe and active programs, classes, and activities for children ✤ a safe place for kids ✤ a place for kids to be after the service ✤ children’s programs

Literature & Information ✤ Clear directions on “what to do.” ✤ Writing down people’s contact information ✤ A table or stand showing the needs for mercy in our area. ✤ Information on how to plug into a Bible study or other church activities. ✤ Programs with the church’s mission stated and... ✤ Information to take home...that answers “Who and What is Mercy Hill?” and “Why is it here?”--so people will know what makes this church different.

Orientation & Help ✤ People & signs showing where to park ✤ People outside pointing the way ✤ People inside showing where to go ✤ Time in the service for people to meet one another.

✤ finds a warm and welcoming authentic community of people. ✤ experiences worship service that is both understandable and accessible as well as done with quality and excellence. ✤ hears Christ-centered, meaningful preaching that addresses their questions & concerns. ✤ has a place for their kids that’s safe, kid-friendly, active, and instructive. ✤ receives info and literature that explains who we are and how people can get involved. ✤ gets plenty of help from volunteers from the time they arrive to the time they leave. SUMMARY.... Mercy Hill wishes to be a church community where, in our Sunday service, a guest or visitor...

What does this mean for me? If you are a visitor to a Sunday service with Mercy Hill, please let us know how we did in these six areas: people, worship, preaching, children, information, and help. OR... If you’re a regular in our Sunday services, and have started to call Mercy Hill your church home, find one of these areas where you can help us improve and “make it your own!”
