Objective 1

 Troy borrowed money from his father so that he could buy a used car. The table shows the remaining balance, b, of Troy’s loan after each payment. Number of payments, p Loan Balance, b 1$3910 2$3685 3$3460 4$3235 5$3010 6$2785

 SOLUTION:  To complete this problem on the calculator, you need to press the STAT button.

 Then press ENTER on EDIT.  You should have the following screen.  If numbers appear below L1, L2, or L3, delete them by pressing the DEL key.

 Under L1, type the number of payments.

 Under L2, type in the loan balance.

 Now press STAT again. With the right arrow key, move to CALC.

 When the following screen appears, press ENTER.

 Go down to 4 and press ENTER.

 The following is your answer.  After substitution, y = -225x  y is the loan balance, b. And x is the number of payments, p. So the answer should be  b = -225p

 Which mapping best represents the function y = 2x when the replacement set for x is {-1, 0, 3}? x y x y x y x y

 First press Y= on the calculator.

 Under Y1=, type in the equation.

 Type 2 ND TABLE so that the table of values for the function appears.

 Look for the values that the question is asking for. The question is asking for -1, 0, and 3. What y values do these x values relate to?  

 

 

 Now check to see that -1, 0, and 3 point to the correct y values in the mapping. x y
