What is the SAT? Are you going to college? 2 million students take the SAT Measure of critical thinking skills Assesses how well you apply what you have learned to analyze and solve problems, like you will do in college.

What does it look like? Eight types of questions. Critical Reading: 67 questions/70 mins. Writing: 49+essay/60 mins. Mathematics: 54 questions/70 mins.

Scoring Multiple Choice Questions: receive one point for each correct answer. For every missed question, minus ¼ point. Unanswered questions aren’t calculated. Math questions: Nothing is subtracted for wrong answers. Essay: You will receive a score of 2 to 12. A blank or illegible essay will receive zero. Total score will be between 200 to 800 for each section.

How to Rock the SAT There’s no substitute for Studying. ◦ Like studying for an exam ◦ Learn to read effectively ◦ Improve vocabulary ◦ Increase problem-solving abilities ◦ Strengthen writing skills Practice!!!! And practice!!!

In this class, we will… Learn the directions for all eight types of questions. Learn approaches for each type. Practice! Read and think carefully. Learn how to guess. Be positive! Stay focused…invest in yourself.
