Presentation transcript:

Ruby, 17, lived with her mother. They often moved to avoid angry landlords and did not always get along, but they made due with what they had. Each other.

One day, without any notice to Ruby, her mother was gone. She had done this many times before but weeks went past without her return. Ruby was left to live alone in their small country house.

Ruby was determined to survive on her own until her mother returned, or at least until her 18 th birthday when she no longer needed a legal guardian. Living on her own was difficult, trying to balance housework, school, and a job, but she thought she could handle it.

After many weeks her mother had not returned and seemed to be gone for good. One day the landlords came to check on the house and figured out Ruby was living on her own. They reported her.

Ruby had to move in with her sister, Cora, and her successful husband, Jaime. She had never met him before. Now Ruby was in a new town, house, and school on top of the fact that her mother had abandoned her.

The change was drastic, and all Ruby wanted to do was take care of herself and go back to her old life.

One night Ruby received help from an unexpected source, the cute neighbor next store that covered for her. She does not understand his help.

Will she let anyone from this new environment in?

Will she move forward?

Will she make new friends?

Will she make amends with her sister?

Will she accept herself?

You will have to read it to find out!

The humor intermixed with the serious issues in this story make it a page turner that you will not want to put down!
