A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic communications. The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams.

A computer network is a group of computers that are connected to each other for the purpose of communication. Computer networking is sometimes considered a telecommunications, computer science, information technology and computer engineering.

It allows file sharing and it saves the time which is wasted in copying a file from one system to another. Provides resource sharing. Increased Storage Capacity. Increased Cost Efficiency.

Examples of different computer networks are: Local area network: (LAN), which is usually a small network. An example of a LAN would be a computer network in a building. Metropolitan area network: (MAN), which is used for medium size area. examples for a city or a state. Wide area network: (WAN) that is usually a larger network that covers a large geographic area. Wireless LANs and WANs: (WLAN & WWAN) are the wireless equivalent of the LAN and WAN.
