Product Overview QlikView Developer Development tool to create data model and graphical interface QlikView Server (QVS) combined with AccessPoint web portal Handles QlikView Client/Server communication Client Authorization against directory providers (AD, eDirectory..) Reads security ACL on qvw documents (NTFS or DMS) Writes security ACL on qvw documents (NTFS or DMS) QlikView Publisher Load data from data sources Reduce applications depended on rules Lookup users and/or groups from directory providers Distribute qvw documents to a QlikView Server 10 architecture

Where do the QlikView products fit in? (QlikView 10 architecture) QlikView Developer

QlikView architecture, Back-end Contains QlikView Source Documents created by QlikView Developer QlikView file types are QVW, QVD and LOG (if log active) QlikView Publisher is the main component in the back-end Windows is always in charge of file system security.

QlikView architecture, Front-end Contains User Documents, this is by the Publisher distributed documents. QlikView file types are QVW, META and SHARED. Main components are QlikView Server and QlikView Web Server or IIS QlikView Server is in charge of client and file system security.

Security bullets regarding back-end/front-end Architecture Back and front-end are often in different network zones The front-end does not have any open ports the back-end The front-end does not send any queries to data sources in back-end The end users can only access QlikView documents in the front-end, never in the back-end. One back-end publisher could connect to several front-end QlikView Servers The QlikView documents in front-end are a result of Publisher tasks.  It does not contain any overhead or redundant data (or should not)  It does not contain any connection strings  To recreate all the qvw documents just run the Publisher tasks

Three-tier Architecture To create a tree-tier Architecture put the QlikView Web Server or IIS on a separate front server (Virtual machine) in front of the QlikView Server. This design works better with AJAX only. The QVP protocol will communicate directly to QlikView Server when using the Plug-in Client.

Scale up QlikView Server Add more memory Add more CPUs or cores

Scale out QlikView Server Add additional servers to create a QlikView Server Cluster Automatically loading applications on each node for maximum memory balance A hardware load balancer or DNS round robin could be added for http failover QVWS/IIS is on the same server as the QVS No Windows cluster functionality is needed

Scale up QlikView Publisher Add more memory Add more CPUs or cores

Scale out QlikView Publisher Add additional servers to create a QlikView Publisher Cluster Publisher tasks will automatically distributed between the nodes according to a configurable memory, load and CPU formula. No Windows cluster functionality is needed

Adding extra web servers in the presentation tier creating a QlikView Web Server cluster Use a load balancer on top to balance HTTP/HTTPS traffic to the nodes Adding extra QlikView Servers in the Application tier Creating QlikView Server cluster Or two separate QlikView Servers Scaling example in a Three-tier Architecture
