Outline What is work? How can my work be transformed? Why should my work be transformed? What is the benefit of transformed work?

Foundational Verse “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive and inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24

What is work? Whatever you do The job that you have before you right now

…work at it with all of your heart… “C’s get degrees.” “That’s gonna have to be good enough” “You want it done better do it yourself” “What do I have to do to get by” How can our work be transformed?

We have a heavenly Boss "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men… Why?

We have heavenly motivation "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men… It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Why?

What is the benefit…? We receive rewards "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.”

Present Rewards Favor For the L ORD God is a sun and shield; the L ORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Psalms 84:11 Promotion For exaltation (promotion) comes neither from the east Nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another. Psalms 75:6-7

Recognition Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. Proverbs 31:31 Witness Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:12 Present Rewards

The Lord’s praise “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:21a The Lord’s position “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Matthew 25:21a The Lord’s disposition Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:21 Future Benefits

Be the best at whatever you do! If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.

Be the best at whatever you do! If you can’t be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be the best little shrub on the side of the hill. Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are. Martin Luther King, Jr.
