A math, science, and social studies project Lynnhaven Middle School December 2010

 had to be something we all agreed upon  had to benefit kids like us  had to have a local impact  had to include ways for us to get help from others

What we wantedWhat really happened  Money from large companies  Toys, clothing, and food from stores  Required months of pre-planning for approval  We had to have a Tax ID number  We had to have a proposal on school letterhead  We learned we were going to have to earn the money

Bella Bach Olivia Berry Hailey Lanier Gregory Lloyd

 Founded in 1988 as Homeless Haven, Inc.  Knows that hungry kids are not good students  Operates Hot Meals & Homework, a project to help raise awareness of the problem – and a few grades  Works with area restaurants, including Coastal Catering, HK on the Bay, and the Westminster- Canterbury retirement center in Virginia Beach

 Serves kids four nights a week  Meals are served to the entire family of kids being tutored  Improves the academics of the children participating  Provides a support system and a positive social environment  Gave us a Wish List for a family in need

We met :  at school in class and selected our charity  at Hailey’s house and brainstormed ideas to make money  at Bella’s house and made posters and signs  at Gregory’s house to recruit customers  at Gregory’s house and worked on our presentation  to go to Target  to deliver our gifts

Raking leaves Our best options for quick cash

No shortage of opportunity

There was plenty of work for everybody on our team

 Neighborhood kids wanted to help rake  Our families challenged us by matching what we earned on some jobs  We received a company match  We collected $550  And then we went to Target

We got to play Santa

It made us feel pretty good

The End A Dancing Penguins Production
