Criticism & Court-packing The Second New Deal & The New Deal Coalition

Main Ideas 1.By 1935, the New Deal faced political and legal challenges, as well as growing concern that it was not ending the Depression. 2.Roosevelt asked Congress to pass the Wagner Act & Social Security to build support among workers and older Americans. 3.Roosevelt was easily reelected, but the New Deal lost momentum during his second term due to his court-packing plan and a new recession. 4.The New Deal expanded federal power over the economy and established a social safety net.
