US imperialism-quack By the 1820’s America Saw the money that could be made in sugar plantations Hawaii was a great place to grow sugar Hawaii was a political investment to secure financial gains for plantation owners 1890 Mckinley tariff act revoked the tax free statues of Hawaiian sugar

US had been dominating Hawaiian affaires with the backing of the Monroe doctrine Queen of Hawaii wanted power to go back to the natives of Hawaii US business men organized a revolt to overthrow the queen Queen was put in prison Stanford Dole made leader of Hawaii-Asked for annexation of Hawaii Aug 1898 Hawaii became an American Territory Quack

Spanish American Cuban war- Quack Cuba wanted independence from Spain America wanted to “Help” mainly plantation owners in Cuba Delome letter was leaked USS Maine exploded 260 US dies We blame the Spanish Declared war on Spain
