Campus Texas STaR Chart Presentation for Los Fresnos HS Technology Leadership EDTC Project 2 Jaime Villarreal

Current Situation The following technology is currently in place: District-Wide Direct connection to the Internet via 45 MB connection to Region I District web servers and servers Written policies in place on acceptable use of the Internet, World Wide Web content, network management, and equipment donations District Wide Exchange Information/ server Seven plus network drops in every classroom Wireless Network Access district-wide Computer projectors, document and digital cameras District Instructional Technology Standards Curriculum Server at every campus Through vendors we provide hosted student , district webpages and Moodle services

Current Situation Los Fresnos High School Direct connection to the Internet via Gigabit connection to the network core. Web server maintained by the students with high school information and projects 10 GB fiber-backbone, 1 Gig Ethernet-to-the-desktop connected computer labs with four multi-processor file servers for advanced technology classes, including desktop publishing, advanced word processing, web mastering, digital graphics and animation, robotics and industrial fabrication, computerized accounting, and Microsoft Office Specialist Training (MOS) Fourteen Computer Labs and 17 mobile wireless laptop labs Wireless Network Access campus-wide Three Distance learning machines Networked online card catalog, Internet access, comprehensive online database subscription, and automated checkout in the library Technology Academy

Texas School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart The Texas Teacher STaR Chart has been developed around the four key areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, : ◦ Teaching and Learning; ◦ Educator Preparation and Development; ◦ Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support; ◦ Infrastructure for Technology.

The Texas Teacher STaR Chart is designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, as well as meeting the goals of their districts. The following data that is being analyzed is taken from the STaR survey administered to educators of Los Fresnos High School. The years being analyzed include , and

Setting 333 TL3 Content Area Connections 333 TL4 Technology Applications 323 TL5 Student Mastery of Technology Applications 222 TL6 Online Learning 322 Total Key Area 1: Teaching and Learning Teaching & Learning focuses on the instructional needs of teachers and the learning needs of students in meeting the vision of technology in education. A decrease is noted in the second year in the areas Technology Applications and Online learning. There was an increase in the third year only in Technology Applications.

There was a decrease in the second year in Professional Development, Levels of Understanding and Patterns of use. There was an increase in the third year in Models and Access of Professional Development and Level of Understandings and Patterns of Use.

Los Fresnos High School Campus STaR Chart Data Analysis 1=Early Tech 2=Developing Tech 3=Advanced Tech 4-Target Tech L1 Leadership and Vision 333 L2 Planning 333 L3 Instructional Support 423 L4 Communication and Collaboration 434 L5 Budget 433 L6 Leadership & Support for Online Learning 334 Total Key Area 3: Leadership, Admin. & Instructional Support Administration and Support Services addresses the role of the technology leader to create a shared vision, encourage and sustain the appropriate integration of technology, use modern information technology tools to embrace accountability and hence use data for sound decision-making and continual assessment of effective technology for improving student learning. There was a decrease in the second year in the area of instructional support, communication, collaboration and budget. In the third year there was a slight increase in instructional support, communication, collaboration and leadership and support for online learning.

The infrastructure of a school is the critical element of support for all four areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology. There was a decrease in the second year in all sections and a slight increase in some sections in the third year.

Technology Goals Teaching and Learning To improve the academic achievement and technology literacy of all students A progressive implementation of the Technology Academy will continue at the High School in order to improve instruction and learning and comply with the Technology Application TEKS Ch. 126

Technology Goals Educator Preparation and Development To provide ongoing, sustained professional development for: teachers, principals, administrators, and school library media personnel to further the effective use of technology in the classroom and the library media center

Technology Goals Administration and Support Services To provide supporting resources, such as services, software, other electronically delivered learning materials, and print resources, that will be acquired to ensure successful and effective uses of technology To use technology effectively to promote parental involvement and increase communication with parents Create a shared vision and encourage the appropriate integration of technology

Technology Goals Infrastructure for Technology Improve existing technology infrastructure in order to improve instruction, reduce cost, increase access to technology and comply with the Child Internet Protection Act To enforce a policy of Internet safety that includes measures to block or filter content for both minors and adults to certain visual depictions
