Precision vs. Accuracy Word of The Day Quantitative vs. Qualitative Let’s Practice!

Accuracy or Precision?  Bao was asked to measure 3 (μL) of blood using a micropipette and she placed the amount on a piece of parafilm. She accidentally set her micropipettor to 30 (μL). This is what the amount looked like. What she accurate? Was she precise? She was precise but NOT accurate!

Precise or Accurate?  Which is the most precise when measuring?  Seconds, minutes, hours, months, or years?  Which is the most precise when measuring?  Seconds, minutes, hours, months, or years? They are in order from most precise to least precise!

Precise or Accurate?  In the lab, students were asked to measure 40 (μL) and 30 (μL) and place the amount together on a piece of parafilm. When the teacher checked their work, she found that the total volume was 70 (μL). Were the students accurate, precise or both? Both accurate & precise

Precise or Accurate?  George measured the length of the lab bench and recorded in his data table that it was 2,456.2 cm in length.  Was he accurate? Was he precise?  George measured the length of the lab bench and recorded in his data table that it was 2,456.2 cm in length.  Was he accurate? Was he precise? 100 cm in 1 meter! He was precise but not accurate!

Is this a precise measurement?  Martha measured the distance to the moon and determined that it was light years away. This is a precise measurement!

Word of the Day Practice  Which picture accurately identifies the term “meniscus”? (A or B)  What is meniscus referring to in this picture?

Word of the Day Practice  What is this tool called? List two words that accurately describe this tool.  What is a microliter? Micropipette! One millionth of a liter! (μL)
