 This unit is designed to give students a real world experience of what life was like in the middle ages. Students will take part in diverse activities, technology, research, and vocabulary study of this time period. The final project will have students writing their own play using the information they have gained from the activities and technology in this unit to re-enact a scenario of life in the middle ages. They will write, type, publish, and perform this final project. Students will understand what life was like during the middle ages and renaissance through research, role playing, reading, and creativity. They will gain knowledge of vocabulary, the arts, social classes, famous people, culture, and history by participating in various activities and projects.  Using the technology and 21 st century skills of today, students can travel back in time to re-live this historical era.

Essential Question: What was life like in the Middle Ages/Ren. Era? Unit Question: What are the social class systems during this era? How was art and culture a big part of this era? Content Questions: What is Fuedalism? What is Architechture? Who is Leonardo Davinci and other famous people from this time period?

By creating this unit, I want to  Try out new methods to make a symbolic time period relevant to my students’ lives  Think of ways to involve my students more in learning different cultures During this unit, I want my students to  Learn ways to connect classic literature, art, and culture to their daily lives  Use technology to communicate with different audiences  Collaborate and work together on the final project

As my students work on this project, they ● Collaborate with peers and community members ● Create a product that shows what they’ve learned ● Share their learning with a real audience

Students will develop higher-order and 21 st century skills in this unit as they ●Use the Essential and Unit Questions to guide their analysis of the play to find themes that cross places and times ●Communicate their ideas to a community audience ●Reflect on their reading, writing, research, and thinking strategies, and modify and adapt them as necessary ●Use project assessments to self-assess their work and give feedback to their peers

Use CFQs to learn Students’ ideas about what life was like in the middle ages Background knowledge of literary terms Assess 21 st Century skills Ability to see common elements and comparison to students culture

I can use the information from these assessments to: Focus on parts of this time period and vocabulary that students are not familiar with Plan activities in which they will be engaged, communicate, and gain knowledge. Students can use the information from these assessments to: Set goals for themselves knowing ahead of time of the final project and what is expected
