A few questions to ponder… At the very start of The Lace Reader, Towner Whitney, the protagonist, tells the reader that she’s a liar and that she’s crazy. –What is the effect on the narration? –Does this alter your perception of Towner? What role does religion play in the novel? –Is there a difference between spirituality and religion? Between faith and blind faith? The author states that The Lace Reader is, at its core, about perception vs. reality. –Is there a difference?

More Questions to Ponder… Towner also confesses to being a liar. –In what ways, if any, do you feel that Towner lied to you? There are no accidents, Eva says…(p.42) –How does this fit in with your existing views on fate v. free will?
