Costume Design The Pirates

You have been asked to design the costumes for a new musical called ‘The Pirates’ The musical is about a group of pirates who travel through time. They travel the seas committing terrible acts of Piracy throughout the ages! The costumes you will design will reflect this. You can choose either a male or female character (or both if you have time)

In groups Think of 5 really good questions to ask the director about what your designs need to be like. You will then take notes when the questions are answered – in this way you will find out what your designs need to include, and how you should start making them!

Observational Drawing The starting point of this project must include observational drawing For this project you are going to draw items that we collected at the beach You must create 3 observational drawings in 3 different media Pick at least two objects. A large object that you can draw in class, and a smaller object that you can take home to draw. Pick your objects carefully. Think about interesting patterns, details, materials and textures.

Homework Research Piracy – think about traditional imagery, modern piracy and future/science fiction examples. Research the steampunk movement. Print out a good selection for your workbooks
