 “I PRed on the 2K.” – Tell them how very proud you are!  “I caught a crab.” – Gasp, check for injuries, then express sympathy and a give pep talk.  “I made stroke.” – Offer congratulations.  “Guess what, I am bisweptual.” – Don’t jump to any conclusions, this means that they can row on either side of the boat.  “Look at my hands.” – Try not to gag, they will heal.  School work –Ask for help, we are here for our rowers.  Carpool – Ends promptly at 4:00. Do not be late!  Water practice – On the water by 4:30. Be there early, ready to go. Time Management

“Athletes eat and train, they don’t diet and exercise.”  Now is the time for healthy eating habits. LOTS of water! Healthy snacks after school. No greasy, heavy foods before practice.  Go to Sleep! Get to bed early – you can’t row tired.  Listen to your coach Do the workouts recommended by your coach.

Water Training begins February 22 nd ! Six days a week - Monday thru Friday evenings and Saturday mornings until regatta season begins.  Weekdays – Carpool meets at Robinson Door #6 – you should arrive by 3:45pm. Last car leaves at 4:00 sharp. Arrive at Sandy Run at 4:15pm. Boats will be hitting the water by 4:30pm. Boats need to be off the water at dusk – time varies.  Saturdays – Usually 8 – 11 am, times will be announced by coaches. Spring Training Schedule

Rowers will receive land training on boat maintenance, launching, and storage. Expect delays! Novice rowers may not row everyday. They will receive new boat assignments daily and some will have land training. What To Expect…

 Lined, long spandex pants  Lots of layers – cool max, fleece, waterproof shell  Warm socks – pack extra (they get wet)  Slides and sneakers  Hat – knit and visor styles  Sunglasses and sunscreen  Towel/ change of clothes (novices get wet)  Refillable water bottle  First aid kit – Neosporin, bandages, tape  Light snack (rowers are always hungry)  Phone (in Ziploc bag) DO NOT TAKE ON BOAT WITH YOU!  Get boat assignment and report time from coaches at Friday practice.  Rowers arrive at boathouse 2 hours before race time. No eating once you arrive!  No parents at boathouse on race days.  Bring something to keep you occupied – there is a lot of waiting time!  Do not leave after racing until the coach releases you.  Parking options – directions, maps, and info on team website.  Drop off rower at Van Thompson lot or pay parking fee.  Be prepared for a hike (even with shuttle service).  Cheer, cheer, cheer!  Meet other parents in Robinson area.  Cheer some more!  Pick up your tired rowers and be prepared to feed them immediately! Team captains arrange spirit days during the school day on the Fridays before regattas to boost team spirit and make the Robinson community aware of our awesome sport. The themed dress up days also feature the exchange of Spirit boxes. Captains will announce during practices and post a calendar in the boathouse for reference. Spirit Days

Friday night pasta parties are a Robinson Crew tradition. Rowers get together to “carb load” by eating lots of pasta the evening before regattas. Organized by the team captains, who are looking for volunteers to host these weekly events.
