The role of radiation monitoring in the « Mother & Child » health project in the Bragin district in Belarus Tatiana Kotlabai « Sprout of Life »

the « Mother & Child » project Objective: to provide health information and promote an ecological and radiological culture towards pregnant women and children 1 year 6 schools 110 future mothers, 92 breast-feeding mothers (11 groups)

Whole Body Measurements (children, pregnant women) Identification of the causes of individual contamination (food samples measurements in Local Centres of Radiological Control) Information of families to prevent the ingestion of contaminated foodstuffs

2 new LCRCs operated by « Sprout of Life » NGO

Results 2111 children were measured Identification of « critical » groups (>70 Bq/kg) for each village information meeting with teachers, Sprout of Life members, health professionals, dosimetrists, as well as representatives of local institutes and authorities (to elaborate a specific action plan) in parallel, direct work with families (Sprout of Life)
