JACKET TALK Cleburne High School’s

Cleburne ISD Mission Statement THE MISSION OF CLEBURNE ISD, AS A UNIFIED DISTRICT AGGRESSIVELY PURSUING EXCELLENCE, IS TO MAXIMIZE STUDENT POTENTIAL TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN AN EVER-CHANGING GLOBAL SOCIETY THROUGH INNOVATIVE STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS, ENGAGING REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES, AND A SUPPORTIVE, VISIONARY COMMUNITY.

Cleburne High School "Support, Challenge, Prepare All Students For Tomorrow"

What is Jacket Talk?  Mentor program that is designed to educate the whole student: o Focus is on Character and Academics o Will meet the last Thursday of every month o Each group will have a representative of CHS and a community volunteer

What We Hope To Accomplish  Build the character of our students and staff  Help build healthy and supportive relationships between students and adults  Create a culture of “our kids” instead of “my kids”  Have fun

How It Will Work  The teacher and mentor will have a folder with the activity options for the day.  You do not have to complete all the activities for the day.  Emphasis is on building healthy relationships, and helping students develop their character.

Role of the Mentor  Care for kids and be understanding  Work with the teacher  Engage students in the discussion/activity  Contact the teacher or CHS if unable to attend a Jacket Talk as early as possible  Bring real-world experiences to encourage students  Be a conduit between the community and CHS

Expectations of the Mentor  Be on time and present  Sign in upon arriving at school  Be dressed appropriately (pants without holes, and a collared shirt or occupational uniform)

Guidelines  Do not take pictures of any students  Do not exchange contact information  Do not have private meetings outside of Jacket Talk (private is defined as a meeting that only the mentor and student attend)  No exchange of gifts

Points of Contact Call the following at Chad Van Winkle, Academic Dean Andy Smith, Assistant Principal of Academics Jennifer Baadsgaard, Principal
