Why do I care? STAAR revising asks about word usage STAAR editing contains misspelled words STAAR essay asks you to “use correct spelling.” Misspelled words and incorrect usage makes you look incompetent and uneducated. Students achieving Level II: Satisfactory Academic Performance can Write expository essays that establish a clear controlling idea, use appropriate organizational strategies and language to create a coherent piece of expository writing, sufficiently develop ideas with specific details and examples, and demonstrate an adequate command of grade-appropriate written conventions Use a variety of correct sentence structures Revise drafts to improve the effectiveness of sentences, strengthen the development of ideas by adding or deleting information, improve the progression of ideas, and ensure that word choice is appropriate and point of view is consistent Edit drafts to correct errors in grammar, sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling

To do list for today: Work in partners (maybe) to complete the following packet over spelling corrections, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and other commonly confused words Be VERY careful because since you have a dictionary, there is no excuse for errors. Read and summarize the FYI topics: Personalities, Did You Know, and Language. BrainPop Categorize Sheet. 10 sentences with each homonym pair in them that SHOW which one you mean.
