ENGLISH I UNIT II: GREETING AND INTRODUCTIONS CLASS # 6 LESSONS # 3 - 4

CONTENTS  Personal Pronouns with to be and have.  Titles and addresses  Adjectives: near and far.  Greetings and Introductions.  Descriptive Adjectives.  Predicate Adjectives.  Physical Attributes and State.

OBJECTIVES  Use the correct form of verbs have and be with the third person in present tense.  Describe where they and others persons are from using near and far.  Practice in the correct form and function of greetings and introductions.  Know the function of descriptive and predicate adjective, and the place of it in the sentence.  Make descriptions of their clothing, certain physical attributes and how they are feeling physically and emotionally.

PERSONAL PRONOUNS WITH TO BE AND HAVE.  BE and HAVE are irregular verbs they change their form with the third persons with the present tense:  To Be To Have  I am I have  You are you have  He is he has  She is she has  It is it has  We are we have  You are you have  They are They have

EXAMPLES WITH BE :  I am a student / You are a doctor.  She is bored / He is an architect.  Example with Have:  I have two dogs / She has a new car.  She has an umbrella / He is an architect.

ADJECTIVES NEAR / FAR  Near means : Cerca -- Far means: lejos.  Example:  Venezuela is near Colombia.  Mexico is far from Brazil.  Peru is near Bolivia.  Paris is far from Egypt.

GREETING AND INTRODUCTIONS  Greeting : formal and informal forms.  Hi / How is it going / How are you? / Hello / fine thank you/ so,so/very good  Great/ fantastic/ etc.  INTRODUCTIONS:  My name is __________________ What is your name ?  My name is __________________  Nice to meet you  Glad to meet you / pleased to meet you too  Goodbye  Goodbye / I’ll see you soon / see you later, after a while.

Descriptive adjectives  These adjectives describe people,places,things in a way that sharpens images and help people to communicate more precisely. The adjective must be place always before a noun it describes. example:  We have Brown hair.  The tall man is wearing a blue suit.  The boys are eating an enormous hot dog.  I have an old car.

PREDICATE ADJECTIVES  Predicate Adjective is created by connecting an adjective with a to be verb ( is - are). The resulting predicate adjective modifies a noun.  Example:  The boy is tired  The dog is sick  The students are intelligent  This program is awful.  Her pants are blue.

Physical state  They are words that describe how people or animals are feeling physically and emotionally. example:  Fine – bien The woman is fine.  Hot – caluroso The milk is hot.  Cold – friolento Winter is cold in Alaska.  Hungry – hambriento------The dog is hungry.  Thirsty – sediento The runners are thirsty  Sick – enfermo The patients are sick.
