Schedule Changes  A student’s schedule will be changed for the following reasons: 1. Computer Error 2. Pre-requisite not met 3. Duplicate Credit 4. TO INCREASE THE LEVEL OF RIGOR!! STRICTLY ENFORCED!!! Be sure the classes you choose are truly the classes you want to take.

5 th Hour Credit Option  Students have the option to earn additional credit first and second term by taking a 5 th hour or early bird PE class. o This allows you to free up space in your schedule to take other classes you’d like to take.  First Term and Second Term Choices: 1. Foundations of Fitness (1/2 credit): 2. Weight Training and Conditioning (1/2 credit): This course meets Monday – Friday 6:30-7:15 AM  NO TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED FOR EARLY BIRD PE

A+ Program  By completing the requirements of this program, you may attend a community college in the state of Missouri for free.  Some four year universities also give A+ scholarships at their institutions. Mrs. Cummings – A+ Coordinator  Requirements: o 2.5 cumulative GPA o 95% attendance rate o 50 hours tutoring/mentoring o Pass Algebra 1 EOC

AVID  Advancement Via Individual Determination  Prepares students for college readiness and success.  Students who are selected to apply for this program will be notified soon.  If you apply and are selected, you will be asked to drop one of your chosen elective classes for an AVID class.

Online Blended Learning  Online courses = on-site (at school) OR remote (at home) o Online course options:  Health/Personal Finance  Animation/Game Design  Marketing Concepts  Enriched ELA 3  Creative Writing  AP Statistics  Psychology  American History  Government  Blended courses = combination of online and face-to-face o Blended course option:  Government  Students must have one online/blended credit to graduate. Will be available to you starting in 10 th grade.

High School Career and Education Planning Guide  The High School Career and Education Planning Guide is available online only o Log in to your Naviance/Family Connection account to access the CEPG o o s number for both username and password (ex. s12345) o m  You will find course descriptions and pre-requisites for all courses offered at the high school

Language Arts  All 9 th grade students enroll in English Language Arts 1 (ELA 1)  Some students may also take English Language Arts Essentials.

Math Regular Math Sequence  Pre-Algebra and Algebra IA  Algebra IA and Geometry  Geometry and Algebra 1B Accelerated Math Sequence  Accelerated Geometry and Accelerated Algebra II  All 9 th grade students are required to take 2 math classes (one each semester).  Minimum requirements = all students must take through Algebra II or Algebra IIA/IIB to meet the minimum graduation requirement  Your counselor has indicated which classes you should sign up for on your Freshman Course Recommendation Form.

Science  All 9 th grade students enroll in Biology  Students may enroll in a second Science course - either Chemistry or Accelerated Chemistry  Must be in Accelerated Alg. II to sign up for Acc. Chem

Social Studies  All 9 th grade students enroll in World History  SOME students will also enroll in: o Advanced Placement Human Geography  World History: Pre-requisite  Offered 2 nd term for Freshmen with teacher/counselor recommendation

Physical Education  Required 1 credit  Must take Foundations of Fitness or Weight Training and Conditioning before any other PE course.  Option of Summer School or Early Bird????????????

Fine Arts  Art (pg. 27) o Design and Drawing  Basic foundation in both design and realistic drawing.  Music (pg. 28) o Music for a Lifetime  Non-performance class that explore a variety of music styles. o Men’s or Women’s Chorus o Campus Band o Concert Orchestra  English/Language Arts (pg. 21) o Drama  Introduction to the theater. Will become acquainted with the history of theater and various significant plays. o Tournament Forensics  This is a competitive acting class.

Practical Arts  Family & Consumer Science (pg. 25) o Fashion and Apparel I o Housing and Interior Environment o Nutrition and Foods  Business/Technology o Introduction to Business o PLTW Computer Science and Software Engineering o PLTW Computer Science Application

Practical Arts  Industrial Technology/Engineering (pg. 34/20) o Home Maintenance  Study of repairs that are commonly undertaken by the average homeowner. o Introduction to Engineering Design (PLTW)  Use 3D modeling software and use a problem-solving model to improve existing products and invent new ones.  English/Language Arts (pg. 21) o Broadcast Journalism o Journalism/Mass Media

Foreign Language  French I  German I  Spanish I  Not required for graduation  Minimum of two credits of the same language are required for many college admissions  Dual Credit Opportunities for the 3 rd, 4 th and AP levels.
