Of all of Gauss' children, Wilhelmina was said to have come closest to his talent, but regrettably, she died young. With Minna Waldeck, he had three children: Eugene ( ), Wilhelm ( ) and Therese ( ). Eugene emigrated to the United States about 1832 after a falling out with his father, eventually settling in St. Charles, Missouri, where he became a well respected member of the community. Wilhelm came to settle in Missouri somewhat later, starting as a farmer and later becoming wealthy in the shoe business in St. Louis. Therese kept house for Gauss until his death, after which she married. Personal Life

Contributions to Math At the age of 7, he is reported to have amazed his teachers by summing the integers from 1 to 100 almost instantly (having quickly spotted that the sum was actually 50 pairs of numbers, with each pair summing to 101, total 5,050 At 15, Gauss was the first to find any kind of a pattern in the occurrence of prime numbers At 19, he constructed a hitherto unknown regular seventeen-sided figure using only a ruler and compass At the age of just 22, he proved what is now known as the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra

Carl Friedrich Gauss received the Copley Medal Awards & Honors
