Problem Statement Design a set of flash tanks to separate H 2 from a Mixture of H 2, Acetone and 2-Propanol for use as a component in the Chemical Heat Pump process.

Outline 1. What is a Chemical Heat Pump? 2. System Diagram. 3. Flash Tank Component Diagram. 4. Progress Made to Date. 5. What Remains to be done. 6. Questions.

What is a Chemical Heat Pump Device to reverse the natural heat transfer process. A compound that can be broken into two or more components. Endothermic reactor. Exothermic reactor. May require additional components.

Chemical Heat Pump Diagram Exothermic Reactor Endothermic Reactor Flash Tank Distillation Column Heat Exchanger Flash Tank Condenser Reboiler H2H2 Mixed H2 Acetone 2-Propanol Acetone,2-Propanol 2-Propanol,Acetone H2H2 Acetone

Flash Tank Diagram H2H2 Acetone, 2-Propanol Mixed Feed 2-Propanol Acetone H 2

Progress Made Flow data from chemical process class. Spread sheet model. Identified need for 2nd flash tank. Rough calculations for the first flash tank.

Rough Flash Tank Dimensions Feed of 100 (mole/second) Feed composition.9 (mol 2-propanol/mol Acetone) Endothermic conversion rate of.2 Height 36” Diameter 36”

What Remains to be Done Identify the components of the exit streams for the flash operation. Size flash tank. Identify economics of the operation. Identify Problems with this operation.
