Strategic Planning

Introduction  Many things have to be done to design and build computer-based information system. In organization it is necessary to improve or re- engineering system; while at the same time new system must be developed to satisfy new needs.  Re-engineering is designing the system to work in different way to fit in which the organization changing business plan.

Strategy the broad objective for and organization  Organization develop both long term and short term plans for information system.  Long term are often as being over five years or more; they are less precise and define the organization’s strategy. The strategy is realized gradually over time as new system are developed to replace existing system  Short term plans are of one or two years' duration and define what need to be done in the following year.

Plan Structure  A complex document that specifies the relationships an organization’s business units as well as its relationship to its stakeholder and environment.  Plan must :  Set the objectives or a mission for organization;  Be futuristic and project a vision of the organization in future;  Look outside the organization  Consider the organization as a whole and not just its components parts  Consider all parts of the organization and their relationship to each other

Commitment to plan  Effective planning commitment from the whole organization to achieve its plan.  Commitment is often gained by including action point in the plan. These action points specify what individual units must do to realize the plan objectivess
