A style of writing where the magical, supernatural, mythical elements mix with the realistic world. Writers don’t create supernatural, modern worlds; they simply reveal the magical elements in it. The two world mix seamlessly as one. Famous examples include the novels, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garciz Marquez, A Universal History of Infamy by Jorge Luis Borges and Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Some films you may have seen that utliize this style inclue Pan’s Labyrinth, Amelie, Midnight in Paris and recently, Birdman.
