+ Registration Handouts Today you received a registration sheet, graduation requirements sheet, and a College & Career Promise sheet. The Course Catalogue with course descriptions & prerequisites can be found on the Counseling Services Webpage on our school’s website under the Registration tab. Please ask a teacher or myself if you have a course question.

+ When will registration begin? Monday, March 7th. We will register students individually through 3rd block classes. Students can locate the registration schedule on the Counseling Office Bulletin Board & Website.

The Chatham County CTE Pathways will show you which courses will fit your interests & goals while building a strong academic foundation. You can find this in the Course Catalogue.

Chatham County Requires an additional 6 Elective Credits Totaling 28 credits to get a high school diploma.

+ Occupational Course of Study Requirements This course of study is ONLY for students who have an up-to-date Individualized Education Plan. Specific OCS courses PLUS internship hours are required. Meet with your EC teacher for more details.

+ How do I Get Promoted to the 10 th Grade? To be promoted to the 10th Grade, you must pass 6 Classes by the end of this year. Chatham County Schools does not do mid-semester promotions.

+ Honors Classes All students may register for any of the honors courses in the course catalog. If you have never taken an honors course and are uncertain if you can handle it, please consult your teacher in this subject area. All Honors English Courses requires a Summer Reading Packet. You may get them from an English teacher, the Counseling Office, or on our school’s website under the Counseling Services webpage in the Registration tab. The Reading Packet is to be turned in to your English teacher the FIRST DAY of school in August no matter which semester you have English.

+ Required Classes Everyone will circle Four Required Classes English – English 2 or Honors English 2 Math – Math I, Math II, Hon. Math II, Math III, or Hon. Math III Science – Biology or Honors Biology History – Civics or Honors Civics There are more academics listed under the electives.

+ NC High School to Community College Articulation Agreement The NC Dept. of Public Instruction and the NC Community College System have a statewide articulation agreement in which students may be eligible to receive college credit after completion of identified Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses in high school. This creates a systematic and seamless process in which students can move from high school to community college without having to duplicate efforts or repeat courses.

+ Criteria to Award Articulation Credit for Community College Classes: Grade of B or higher in the course, and A score of 93 or higher on the standardized CTE Post Assessment In other words, if you meet the criteria listed above in selected high school classes, they can count toward your community college degree.

+ Career & College Promise Community College Classes for High School Students

+ Career & College Promise Classes: Online Community College Transfer Pathway offers classes that will Transfer to all UNC Universities and almost all Private Universities. Community College CTE Pathways offer classes that are aligned with careers in a CTE Pathway and give you Community College credit. *Both Pathways will also give you high school credit.

+ CCCC Courses – College Transfer Juniors or Seniors Only These courses require an application to be completed by each registered student. You must have a weighted 3.0 gpa. You must demonstrate college readiness. You must maintain a 78 average or higher in your CCCC classes to continue taking CCCC classes.

+ CCCC College Transfer Classes The College Transfer courses will be taught on-line in the computer lab. You can take up to two on-line courses at the same time during a class period. Second semester you can take up to two more classes in a class period. These classes count as an honors class & each class will give you 3 credit hours in college credit. Therefore, you will receive one extra grade point towards your high school GPA. They will transfer to any college as long as you have a 70 or higher.

+ CTE Career Pathway Courses Some of the CTE Pathway courses are taught at other locations, however, some are also taught on-line. These classes do not count as an honors class. Accounting, Auto. Mechanics, Criminal Justice, Dental Assting, Nursing Assistant, Business Admin, Medical Assisting, Welding, Vet. Med. Tech., etc. *A complete list of CTE Pathway offerings can be found on the CCCC list in the Course Catalogue.

+ CCCC CTE Pathway Options Requires a 3.0 weighted GPA or principal’s approval. You must maintain a 70 average in your CCCC classes or higher to continue taking CCCC classes.

+ Timeline for Registration Registration through 3rd period classes starts Monday, March 7th. TURN IN REGISTRATION SHEETS TO YOUR 3 rd BLOCK TEACHERS BEFORE March 7th with your signature & your parent’s signature completed. We will hand out registration schedules beginning with seniors first this summer. You will be able to make changes when schedules are ready to be picked-up the first of August. Dates to be announced. During Schedule Changes in August, you may request “wanna” changes. Once this week is over, you may no longer ask for these changes.
