Active Screening – Appointments Ask if patient has fever; new onset of cough; shortness of breath; diarrhea; new rash; exposure to chickenpox, measles or shingles. Check if appointment can be rescheduled for when they feel better. If not, try to schedule them for the end of the day.

Active Screening in Clinic Encourage ALL patients and families to do hand hygiene. Ask if patient has fever; new onset of cough; shortness of breath; diarrhea; new rash; exposure to chickenpox, measles or shingles. If yes to any of these, separate from other patients in the clinic and place in a private room. If the patient has upper respiratory tract symptoms, ask them (and the family) to do hand hygiene and place a mask on the patient.
