Call Mapper Dispatch E-911 Emergency Locator Tool

Accessing the Call Mapper application

Entering a location

Finding the location entered The system will find candidates based on what you entered and scores them. The candidates are listed and sorted with the most likely location at the top of the list. This is to account for misspellings or other entry errors. The highest scored candidate is then marked on the map. Click “Zoom to” to get closer in, then click the “X” to close that window. If the entry mapped isn’t the desired location, look through the results listing to see if you see it there. If so, click the entry and the map will indicate your selection.

Viewing Emergency Response Information Once the map has been clicked at the incident location, the response information for emergency personnel and resources will be displayed.

Getting Landing Zone coordinates The lower left corner of the map houses the scale bar and the coordinates of the current cursor location. Simply moving your mouse pointer across the map will retrieve the coordinates in “decimal degrees”. The location shown in the picture to the left is the location of a clearing across from the LEC. This information can then be relayed to response personnel in the field.

Using the locator to find an intersection Intersections can be located by entering the two street names separated by the “&” symbol. Here we have located the intersection of Broughton and Russell streets. The scoring concept still applies here so had there been multiple intersections of the two street names (i.e. in two different towns) the user would need to select the one he/she desired.

Additional Map Layers Clicking the “More…” button in the upper right corner of the map will display all of the available map layers. Items that are unchecked are not visible. If the selection is checked but grayed out it means that the layer is not visible at this scale. Zoom in closer in order to see that data.

Additional Map Layers (Hydrants) Here we’ve entered an incident location at the intersection of Parkwood and Catalina in a rural area of the county. The dispatcher can see that there is two hydrants near that incident, one east of the intersection and one west, and can relay that information to the responders if necessary.

Changing the Basemap (background map) You can change the background map by clicking the “Basemap” button in the upper right corner of the map. The available choices are “Imagery” and “Streets”.

Locating a specific map reference grid Users can also locate a specific map reference grid much like looking up a location. This will be primarily used by administrative staff, but the capability is there for those who need it. Clicking the binoculars will bring up the search dialog box.
