The Columbian Exchange Brought a movement of plants, animals, and diseases between the Eastern and Western hemispheres. This movement of living things between hemispheres is called the Columbian Exchange.

Negative Effects Smallpox, measles, and influenza killed many Native Americans who had no immunity towards these diseases. Europeans decreased Naïve American populations by 90 to 95 % between the years 1519 and 1619.

Positive Effects in the Americas Europeans brought plants and animals to the Americas. European cattle, pigs, and horses all thrived in the Americas. Plants from Europe, such as grapes, onions, and wheat, also thrived in the Americas.
