Content Area: Mathematics Grade Level: Kindergarten Summary: The purpose of this PowerPoint is to give the students the ability to learn about counting and numerals interactively. Learning Objective: Given a grouping of animals, the student will match the corresponding numeral with 100% accuracy. Content Standard: CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.B.5 Count to answer “How many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number 1-20, count out that many objects. Accomplishment : Demonstrate the ability to count to tell number of objects.

Do you remember what numerals are? They are numbers!

Numerals (Numbers) Are Symbols That Show How Many Let’s see how this works… There are 4 Bunnies! There are 7 bunnies!

So, Each Numeral (Number) Stands for a Different Amount! 3 Cats 6 Cats 1 Cat Do you see how the numeral matches how many cats you counted?

Try some counting with your fingers! How many fingers do you have all together? Stick out only some of your fingers and count them. Try different amounts. Can you match each amount to the right numeral?

Game Time! How many horses do you see?

CORRECT!!!

One More Time! How many cows do you see?

You Got It Right! Hooray!!!

Oh no! You got that one wrong. Try counting those animals again!

OOPS! Better Go Back and Try Again!

So What Have You learned? Numerals are numbers. Numerals are symbols that show amount. Each numeral stands for a different amount.
