Hand Tool Use and Care

ASSOCIATED RISKS Eye injuries Cuts and abrasions Hand Injuries Small projectiles

All tools should have a proper storage location to protect them from loss or damage Clean and return them after use

Never leave tools on the floor where they will become a trip hazard Never leave tools hanging over the edge of a bench where they could fall – see above

Replace worn or damaged tools immediately Use tools only for their intended purpose and use them properly Only use chisels, knives or blades that are sharp. Never use blunt tools

Files should not be used as pry bars – they are very brittle Never stand behind anyone swinging a hammer – stand to the side
