Aerobic Respiration  “Aerobic” means “with oxygen”  Oxygen is required for these processes to occur: it is the final acceptor of electrons  36 additional ATP can be produced  Includes the Krebs cycle & the electron transport chain.

Fermentation (Anaerobic Respiration)  “Anaerobic” means “without oxygen.”  Oxygen is not required for these reactions to occur: another substance is the final acceptor of electrons  No additional ATP is produced. C 6 H 12 O 6  2ATP + other molecule(s)

Fermentation allows glycolysis to continue by regenerating NAD +
