Biotech opportunity this summer!  Shoreline Community College  First 20 students to sign up get 50% from Edmonds School District!  Link on my website (under today’s date)

Final exams and final grades  Final exams – in Skyward Average final exam score for all honors classes: 83% See me after school/in PASS to look at final exams Failed? May retake next Mon, Tue, or Wed after school. ○ Retake entire exam. One try only. I’ll review a couple of commonly missed questions now  Grades Final grades posted by the weekend (Skyward) Grades are a reflection of content knowledge – nothing can be “done” to “fix” or “improve” them. See me after school/in PASS to discuss Unhappy with grade/performance? ○ See me to discuss how to improve next semester. ○ I’m here to help…

Binders  Recycle old assignment sheets (keep 2) Must write down new activities & homework every day Note: 100% homework completion? See me!  Recycle most material from before winter break Keep everything after 1/15!  Keep (all available online): Binder description Class syllabus (course expectations) Lab report description  ALL new handouts clipped into binder  New notes, warmups, etc – notebook  Label and organize everything by date

Absent reminder  If absent: Record assignment sheet from website before you return Get all handouts (see box) See me – this is your responsibility. ○ After school or during PASS ○ You must physically come into this room after an absence. If you do not see me, you will not earn credit.

A note about homework and learning  Homework is to help you learn and review material.  Homework grades are important in this class.  Test grades are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT.  “Getting homework done” is important  LEARNING material in is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT  “Getting homework done” won’t help much on tests.  LEARNING MATERIAL will help you do well.  If you think assignments are just about “getting points”, you are missing the point entirely.

Course expectations - reminders  Grading: 55% tests/quizzes, 35% assignments, 10% participation (attendance counts)  No late work Exceptions: one late pass, excused absences (see me)  Passes – put your names on them ONE “free tardy” – then sign in for any more (detention)  PASS – sign up ahead of time  Electronics - keep in backpack/pocket (confiscate if seen) This has become a tiresome issue. Keep them away.  Extra credit – one per semester  Food: drinks with lids ok, no other food  ABSENT THE DAY THIS WAS PRESENTED? GO TO NEXT SLIDE

 Please come see Mr. Welman to get your 2 nd semester passes (tardy, late, bathroom). Tell him you saw this slide by saying: ○ “the year is halfway over!”
